A robotic milking farm installed at Feilding High School is helping students to see the future of farming.
Rowan Galloway is part of the DeLaval team managing the unique robotic farm. He spoke to The Country Early Edition's Rowena Duncum about the reasoning behind the project.
"The move was to really try and bring the farm into the 21st century and also be able to incorporate modern farming technology into their syllabus as an attraction for students from out of the area."
The data generated by the robotic system can be analysed by the students for feed decisions, production management and animal health says Galloway. The data can also be used in other areas of the school.
"It's not just the agricultural syllabus or faculty that's able to us the data. The real goal is for the school to be able to use the farm working data in other parts of the school, such as economics...biology."
