It's a common misconception that farmers need to milk more cows to get more milk says Paul McNamara.
The Cluster Solution Manager for DeLaval Asia Pacific spoke to The Country Early Edition's Rowena Duncum about how farmers can milk smarter, not harder.
"I think it's possible to fine tune your routine ... so that you actually extract more milk and better quality from the cows you've got," says McNamara.
McNamara reminds farmers to get a decent machine check and to replace liners and claw tubes while making sure to inspect the alignment of the cluster to see if it hangs properly.
Farmers want to do more with less labour says McNamara, which results in an increased level of interest in automation.
