Pierre Nixon is a Multimedia Journalist and breaking news reporter for the New Zealand Herald, based in Christchurch.
Pierre has been a journalist since 2022, and his passion for becoming a reporter was driven from a young age. With parents working in the media industry, Pierre grew up around the fast-paced, busy but exciting place that is a newsroom. He obtained a Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications (Journalism) at the New Zealand Broadcasting School in 2022, which led to his first role in the industry as an intern at TVNZ in Auckland. After six months, he moved to Newstalk ZB in Christchurch as a multimedia journalist, where he covered all things South Island, including high-profile court cases, breaking news events, and local Government scandals. During his time with Newstalk ZB, Pierre also got to dabble in stories of national interest, including helping with the coverage of the 2023 election. The thrill of chasing breaking stories and holding those in power to account is what has led to his current role as the South Island Breaking News Reporter. You can contact Pierre at pierre.nixon@nzme.co.nz.
