KEY POINTS:
YouTube has announced its localised New Zealand site - but without the impressive line-up of content partners that came with yesterday's launch of Australia's version.
The Aussie launch came with Network Ten, ABC, Seven, Sky News, Southern Cross View and Fairfax Media deals.
New Zealand gets TVNZ, 100% Pure New Zealand and Sky News, with the glaring omission of TVWorks, not to mention smaller local channels.
It's the user-generated content that makes the difference though and with Kiwi video already piled high on the main YouTube.com site, the New Zealand version should prove effective.
It will mean local rankings, homepage promotions and featured videos - theoretically making for a Kiwi-fied YouTube experience.
"We're very excited to be bringing YouTube to New Zealand, and are committed to offering the local community a platform to showcase New Zealand's unique culture and lifestyle to the world," said YouTube co-founder Steve Chen in a statement.
