KEY POINTS:
What do you think of the PS3? Is it the new champ of the gaming consoles? Console owners can get very passionate about whether Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo rules but even some Sony fans have some reservations about the price tag and features of the new PlayStation.
Others say people are just knocking the PS3 because it is the new kid on the block.

Sony has marketed the PS3 as the next big thing to hold the gaming platform industry for the next 10 years... Give it 12 months and they'll announce plans for the next big release within the next 1-2 years. I don't understand why people would run out and buy these machines for the starting price straight out of the gate (keeping up with the Jones' maybe?). Save your money and frustration, the next release machines will be improved over the current model, bugs will be fixed, interfaces improved etc... this always happens.

I am not really interested in either to be honest. Too much money when the previous platforms from both companies work well enough and have huge catalogues of games. I only buy about 3 games a year but also use my ps2 as a dvd player in the bedroom. I already have a large collection of DVDs, so I don't want to start again with a standard like Blu-ray or HD-DVD that might die out in a couple of years. Besides, it's bad enough waiting for older titles to be released in zone 4, imagine how long you will be waiting for the newer formats. So neither really does anything that the older platforms can't already do for me... therefore, I won't be bothering to get either for the next while. Now, if one could record TV onto its hard drive, that would be another story.

First of all, I am in the US where the PS3 costs $600 for the 60GB version. Lets just say that it is not worth it right now when it comes to games. However, I do agree that the PS3 has a good value in the US, but the value sucks in the UK. The reason why the PS3 is a good value is because of the features packed into it; blu-ray being the most notable.
A lot of PS3 fans keep arguing how the PS3 is better than the X360 because it has all these features and if you buy all the necessary equipment for the X360 then the PS3 is the better deal. While this is true, they are all missing the point of MSFTs strategy. The aim of MSFTs strategy is to provide us with options. Yes, the PS3 is the better deal with those features, but does that mean everyone wants or should pay for those features? If we do want all those features and we prefer PS3 games, then that is great, the PS3 has a great price. However, if we want to play PS3 games, then the price is too high because we still have to pay for all the other features. However, when it comes to the X360, there are multiple SKUs that allows us gamers to have a choice.
By the end of April there are going to be three different SKUs for the X360. If MSFT were to release a 4th SKU with HD-DVD playback built in with the same price as the PS3, then they would basically kill Sonys hardware advantage. A lot of complaints would be made to MSFT, but these complaints would only be made by hardcore fans who want the best features for their console of choice. If we really stop and take a look at what MSFT have done, we will come to realize that the different SKUs are there for the different class of gamers; hardcore, intermediate and causal. MSFT is catering to the different groups, something that hasn't been seriously done before. Unfortunately since the introduction of the X360 Elite, all the SKUs cant be easily upgraded to the same level (due to HDMI being built in). Hence there is a trade-off when its comes to options. One cant go buying a Core and expect to upgrade it to a Premium for the same overall price as buying a Premium. It does not happen
in the PC world so dont expect it to happen in the gaming world. My only complaint with MSFT is that they didnt release all the different SKUs at the same time, plus WiFi would have been a good thing to add to the X360 Elite. However, MSFT could still bundle the adapter if they want. That's the advantage of external features.
So yes, the PS3 is a good deal and besides the games (and XBL) is a better deal than the X360 when it comes to matching features. But because there are no options, it sucks because we will have to pay the hardcore gamers price regardless of what class of gamer we fall under. That, or wait a few years when the price drops. The Wii is selling well because of the Wiimote and the price. A hardcore gamers price is expensive for a casual gamer, but a casual gamers price is like a sale for a hardcore gamer.
Yes, I am a fan of the Xbox because I like MSFTs strategy, the games are great (GTA IV, DMC 4, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Forza 2, Assassins Creed, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Gears of War, etc.) and XBL overall is great. Unfortunately MSFT has not made all the features of XBL available to all territories. Theres so much to XBL that people outside of the US are missing and I would suggest constantly complaining to MSFT about it. Sonys PS3 is great for the total package, but jumping into the market at $600+ with only a $500+ option is crazy. We will just have to see how quickly Sony can reduce the end users price.

Over priced, over hyped, and so over PS3, Xbox 360...Nintendo WI is the one. Awesome graphics are great, but its game play that matters and if you own a PS2 you already have great games. So why upgrade? No reason at all actually. Until there is a great reason to own a PS3, I wont.I already have an Xbox and a PS2!

Best Playstation ever. Despite what the media says. Havent touched my PC games since Friday. The new controller feels lighter than I am used to, but thats only a minor setback. Shame about Sony losing the patent battle on the dualshock. Controls seem to respond better, havent been a fan of FPS games on consoles until now. The sticks dont just flop about, but actually have some resistance. Highly recommend Motorstorm. Great off-road racing game. My PS1 games work fine, some of my PS2 games have issues, (probably because they switched from hardware to software emulation) but I expect that any compatibility issues will be resolved with software updates. Much like they did with the PSP and its functionality. Fair and unbiased reports by the media would be good, as well as some research, rather than spouting unfounded nonsense and FUD. Anyone who thinks this is just a game console is deluded.

PS3: Tried it, spent some time getting used to it and then some more time showing it off to people. Its going on trade me now as its not worth it. The games are a year behind Xbox, the graphics are no better and blu ray....well Im sure my money can now wait to see who really wins that war. Why I didnt listen to the sales guy instead of the international hype I dont know. Who has the best price for an Xbox360 ?
YJ
PS3 is a scrap heap, this happens way too often in the gaming industry, its like this - Some big company which has a great reputation in being innovative and known for making good products, spends 3-5 years making their precious project and them when it is released, it turns out that it is a piece of s- but people who bought it are either too embarrassed to tell everyone that they spend so much cash on a bag of rubbish, or they just sell it on Trade Me like - **Ultimate PS3 Combo** + all the launch games! The best thing to do is to wait till the end of the year when Halo 3 comes out, the Xbox 360 should be cheap by then, and buy Halo 3 and Xbox 360 together, even better with Xbox Live. At the end of the year, we shall welcome the best gaming experience yet created
Felix
I will take the Wiis innovative gameplay any day over the so-called "graphics advantage" on the PS3 or Xbox 360.

I was one of the 1st few people in Palmy to get my PS3, and I LOVE it! The graphics are mind blowing, the controller rocks, its not so massive and weighty as the Xblot360s. I personally don't care if it doesn't vibrate. Its big, its beautiful, its heavy, its worth the $1200. Remember when the PS2 came out? It was at least $1200! So get over the high price tag.
Michelle
I love my PS2. it is the best gaming system I have ever had. I still have my PSX too. I didnt buy the Xbox so I could save for the PS3 - but the PS3 is a major let-down. I have always thought Sony is far superior to Nintendo because it has "backwards compatibility". But no, not the PAL version, sorry mate! For this reason I am not upgrading. I can play flashy games on my computer, and my PS2 games on my PS2. Why would I want an expensive Blu-ray player? Without the backwards compatibility, and not even a vibrating controller, it seems Sony have lost the plot. Totally not worth it, and I was so looking forward to it :(

Another chapter in Sonys continuing estrangement from their customers. Despite its apparent technological superiority, the PS3 is like a bad movie sequel, a ho-hum continuation of the trend to improve graphics, but not a whole lot else. Expect more of the same; if 1080i is all the future has to offer then count me as disappointed. On a side note, Nintendos offering is a timely and refreshing return to innovative fun in gaming. If you've got a stack of cash to drop on a gaming console then make sure you play the Wii before you buy anything.

No matter what the losers launch negative propagandas about this wonderful machine created by mankind, history will always be on PS3 side. This console is as powerful as a super computer. The cell processor, no one could have done it except Sony. When the potential of this futuristic machine is unleashed, competition will be torn apart in a matter of months if not days. Three cheers for Sony. Hip hip hooray!

We got a PS3 on the day it launched because my husband and children all said they love the Playstations. So I went to the money shop because my family cant really afford the 1200 to buy it. Last night my husband and kids start playing it but stopped after 10 minutes. I saids "whats wrong" and he said "Iits just a racing game - no good nothing." I said play the other games and they did, but stopped again. I feel as if I have wasted our familys money on it, and now we are in more debt to someone. If your family is thinking of getting one just because its a playstation - dont!! You'll waste your money, just like we did. Ana to kai! Serves us right. Te mutunga ke mai o te rori o te tangata. Hope this helps your decision.

Xbox360 offers the most value for all gamers. It has a wider selection of games to choose from, the best online service in Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade (TMNT, Castlevania SOTN, Alien Hominid, Geometry Wars, Worms), the best controller ever created and more importantly some epic games on the way (Halo 3, Forza Motorsport 2, BioShock, Alan Wake, Blue Dragon and Mass Effect) and a cheaper price point. The PS3 has yet to release any must have games and therefore I cannot say that the extremely high price point makes it worthwhile to buy one. Let us do some maths: $700 for an Xbox360 + $500 for a Nintendo Wii = $1200 - the same price as the PS3. 2 consoles for the price of 1 = more bang for your buck. The Nintendo Wii is absolutely fantastic by the way.
Dont bother with PS3 until we see a massive price drop (which will not be anytime soon) and games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 come out. Unless you are a high def movie buff with a 60-inch HDTV and plenty of money to throw around of course ;)
Mat
Not worth $1200. Anyone forking out that much is crazy, not because the hardware is not worth the money, but because the content is not available to do it justice. By the time a decent range of games that truly takes advantage of the processing power of the console is available, all three manufacturers will be looking at the next stage of the console war - price reductions. And buying for the sole purpose of Blu Ray is even more crazy. The format war between Blu-ray & HD-DVD is a long way from being resolved. Anyone who thinks so is just falling for the hype from either camp.
Kirk
If you feel a great need to get a PS3, I would suggest holding off (at least a year) for both price to drop in MSRP, and for new games and Blu-ray movies to flourish. At this rate, you are paying about 500.00 more to get a PS3, and the next Resistance: Fall of Man can be farther away than you think.

Welcome to the real world folks. Sony did put into the market a very expensive machine. More over Europe seems to really be getting reamed on the pricing. $1200 for a PS3?! I personally own a ps3 and an Xbox 360. I have surround sound as well as a nifty high-def panel TV. My personal opinion is they both have gotten things right and some are blaringly wrong. First off graphics. Admittedly as of yet, there is nothing on the PS3 that has knocked my socks off graphics wise. But honestly what launch title, or title released in the first 9 months for that matter, on the PS2 knocked anyones socks off? It was the same with the 360. Here is where I do not understand all the whining I keep hearing… the Xbox360 has had more than a year to get the developers comfortable with the platform so of course it will have more games and right now with that much experience under their belts developers can finally push the envelope of next gen graphics on the 360. The stuff available on the PS3 right now is ripe with growing pains. But not to worry it only gets better from here.
Backward compatibility. Sony really did drop the ball here. I think there was a lot of pressure to get the damn thing manufactured and out the door. But really I think they could have implemented better software emulation. I personally have not come across any of my games that dont play perfectly (although I am on an American one). Software emulation is tricky but in the end I think that you guys may have a more comprehensive list of playable titles. Emulation is easily updated and tweaked to do what it needs to do. I mean Sony knows that one of the selling points is the huge catalogue of ps1 and ps2 titles. I dont think for a heart beat that they will let that 30-something per cent crap slide for long.
Blu-ray: I think the VHS-Beta war is back but in the long run I think that they will either co-exist or HD-DVD will go the way of DivX. I think they are both great but in the end the studios will want the one with the most robust development platform (Java) and the users are going to want what is more entertaining (that translates to more storage in the end). Who knows though HD-DVD might have a trick up their sleeves. But most likely it will be a continuous game of catch up till development gets to expensive to keep up. I mean Blu-ray already has 250GB discs circulating developer shops. Sorry to say that is far beyond the theoretical wall of HD-DVD. If you want some unbiased info instead of my personal opinion you should head on over to Wikipedia. You should find it very educational.
Form factor (and other "environmental" considerations): You know they both (X360 and PS3) are the size of an old school VCR. I mean really they are pretty huge. But honestly I do not think with the current technology they could get them any smaller. So although I hate to admit it, I dont think their size is an issue at all. Noise on the other hand well lets just say I would rather not have a leaf blower running under my television any day of the week. This is one area that I feel the 360 has lost at hands down. You know I do not have any numbers on this and honestly they would not matter to me anyway. The 360 has a constant fan sound as well as drive noise that when not playing with the volume blaring is quite irritating. The PS3 has its moments of "wind tunnel" effect but they seemed to have cleverly integrated some sensors that only kick the "turbines" into after burner when absolutely needed.
Controllers: Man I miss force feedback. Period. I have always thought that Sony did the dual shock controllers right. I really like the feel of the new SIXAXIS, the joysticks are more responsive and accurate and the tactile triggers just feel right. But man what I wouldnt give for that little vibration during key moments of the game. They say that the feedback system would interfere with the motion sensing gear but it is not like all the games use that feature. Why not put the hardware into the controller and let the user decide to turn on the motion sensing or the feedback? I wish this thing had PS2 controller ports or something. The 360s controller is a great piece of hardware any way you look at it. Wireless (although not an established standard like Bluetooth) and with force feedback. It is heavier but really I do not see a problem with that. It is laid out well and man oh man it has that good old rumble!
In the end. I feel that they both have strong points. I mean Sony has some catching up to do. But when they finally get the lead out and get cracking it will only get better for us gamers. Xbox has established dominance, Sony will catch up and when they do it will force both Microsoft Sony and third party developers to push the envelope and keep making things better. So really let the pissing match between Sony and Microsoft continue! By all means please tear each others throats out (Sony and Microsoft) just keep the games and gear flowing. Keep innovating. Oh yah I have not mentioned Nintendo and their black sheep the Wii. While Sony and Microsoft are trying their best to gut each other Nintendo will sit pretty knowing that whoever wins this next gen war they built the thing that can get parents to connect to their kids world of gaming. Maybe now the industry can finally break free of the adolescent image that the older generations seem to think it exists in. So that being said, a big thank you to Nintendo.
Murray
Shame on Sony for rolling out a sub-par version of their PS3 gaming platform to New Zealand! Whereas the US and Japanese markets got PS3s that are almost completely back-compatible to PS2, ours are likely to be largely incompatible. Why? A way to reduce their development costs in this market. So to all those talking about the back catalogue of games; think again.
Leon
The price tag $1200 for a PS3 is high, but when compared to the cost of an Xbox 360 (20 GB hard drive) having to add an HDDVD drive external unit, and a wireless network adaptor (both of which are extra costs) it is very similar in price. And the Xbox 360 is already a year old. The PS3 has a 60 GB hard drive (inbuilt and expandable), Blu-ray HD, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, all in the one unit. In time, the price should come down and more games will be available. The backward platform games compatibility is a bad point. I would be buying a PS3 to play PS3 games, not PS2 games, but I hope they do sort it out to make it possible to dust off the PS2 games on the occasions I want to play them.
Edward (US)
Please dont buy this Playstation 3. It is a very sad looking one giant clunk of hardware piece of S!, Its a lock in comprising one product services, with no consumer benefits in return.. This PS3 product is like a cell phone bill, get rid of it as soon as you can. and get with a company like Microsoft's Xbox 360 where you win. Be gone with PS3, embrace something new in your life. Playstation 3 freezes up over wireless internet, just barely getting on the internet brings me back to the 56k era in 1998 dialup, the internet is so slow on ps3. Sega Saturn (1995-97) loaded up quicker to my last recollection - over the 56k internet web browser, I pity the Playstation 3 all its technology what a waste, I think its mini PSP is actually faster, Save your 600.00 dollars and buy like something thats going to make you money dont throw it away, buy some stock open a CD account, or a IRA do something important; buy a LCD 32" TV or something, sure there's a lot of things you can buy with 600.00 dollars, also laptops.

The new games are all about the graphics. I have just picked up an old Sega mega drive super cheap and have got some of the best games I have ever played. Admittedly the graphics are nothing but it has what I really want from a game machine and that is really fun games to play. 13 games for $80, beats shelling over 1k! Great of you can afford a PS3, and they will come down in price, all systems have since the Sega MS. Just be patient and wait! Personally I have not actually played the new systems but to me the Wii just looks fun and would probably get my vote, even though I have been a staunch PS2 owner in the past, but being an old school gamer means the Wii will get my vote, and maybe my money!
Neil
Why dont some parents or teenagers think about buying a surfboard, skiis or climbing gear instead of a device that has you sitting on your butt all weekend? PS3=loser.
M Roberts
PS3 worth it? In my opinion, no. Too expensive when the games are comparable to the Xbox 360, which has more and cheaper games available now. The element which makes the PS3 so expensive, Blu-ray, is an unproven format at this stage, so you may end up paying a fortune for the equivalent of the Beta in the video players VHS vs Beta battle of a few years ago. It may be worth it later down the track when the price drops. But for now, if all you want is a great games machine with plenty of good games, buy a PS2 or Xbox and save a fortune. If you must have better graphics, buy a Xbox 360 and spend the difference on a great range of games. Or the Nintendo Wii if you want something a little different.
Thomas Lane
I know this may seem hypocritical, but why are we all posting our opinions? Wouldnt it be better to enjoy our preferred console and stop bitching about others? These posts make me sad, to think so many are so petty.
Matt
What are you talking about? The PS3 is awesome. It supports both MSD and SD memory cards. Its wireless controller interacts with whatever game your playing for example if you were say riding a dragon or something. If you tilt the controller, you would fly that direction. Lets see an xbox360 that has those features. The playstation3 also boasts a bigger 80GB hard drive and the online capabilities are great. You might as well chuck out your PC. and since the BDs can hold 25GB of content on a single layer disc its no wonder the graphics are so much better. I must admit that there are some flaws like the emotion chip (lets you play PS2 and PSOne games) that got left out but with each firmware update the list of PS2 games gets bigger and bigger. The PS3 also interacts with PSP wirelessly, so you can send pics and stuff and play PS3 games on your PSP screen. I dont think theres an Xbox in the world that could do that. So quite frankly PS3 is better.
Sue
PS3 = $1199.99 (One complete console). XBox 360 $719.99 + $249.99 (HD DVD Drive) + $189.99 (Wifi Adaptor) = $1159.97 Spend the extra $50 and get it all in one package = Priceless :)

The PS3, lets be honest it is an unmitigated failure in all areas, Heres the list:
1:Lacklustre game selection-Lets see Genji(what!), Tiger woods 07(for the love of god!) and NFS Carbon(so last year!). Honestly the launch games are terrible, This may not of seemed bad if only Sony had released maybe 1 or 2 of its bigger game franchises to bolster this otherwise uninspiring selection. Games such as Tekken 6 and Killzone 2 (games that have been "in development" for the past three years) are conspicuous by their absence also by releasing God of war two exclusively for the PS2 this year, Sony have rodgered the people buying the PS3.
2:Backward Compatibillity-38 per cent compatibility for Europe and Australasia. 98 per cent for Japan and America, sound unfair, of course. Now the 360 has a backward compatibility problem too, like Sony, Microsoft stupidly announced years ago that there would be "no issues" with this. The difference however with Microsoft is that later down the track, months before the 360 was released they announced that not all games would be compatible, so at least consumers had time to swallow that pill and accept it well before the time of release, but not Sony, who wait two weeks before Europe and Australasian release to announce that the emotion chip will not be part of their consoles thus kneecaping an outrageous 60 per cent of games that should be able to be played on the system.
3:Blu-ray: In short "Who Cares!" Okay Blu ray is very impressive on paper and it looks great. But not every one has a HD capable TV and can anybody tell me what video store you can get these Blu-ray discs and actually HD discs at? I thought so, no one knows. Blu- ray for the moment is a dead duck, with only a small amount of discs available. Virtualy nowhere to hire and no affordable desktop or notebook computer to actually use the blank Blu-ray discs which have not materialised yet. Sony may have inadvertently created this decades version of Sega's abysmal "MegaCD" experiment of the mid 90s. That was a failure. Oops can I add that Sony have not shipped a HD cable with the PS3, thanks Sony HD without HD.
4:Six-axis controller: ood idea, except that a little company called Nintendo have a created something called the Wii with its remote that does a hell of a lot more than move in six-axis. What is most awful about the PS3 controller is that it has no rumble feature, important for immersive experiences with games. The reason why there isnt any rumble feature is that Sony got their asses sued off by an American inventor who had created and patented the original rumble pack, He claimed that Sony had used and marketed his invention for their Playstations without his consent. The court agreed with him and Sony paid a hell of a lot of million to this guy, end result Sony have no rumble feature and couldnt find another type in time, they still havent found one. Also everytime you turn the PS3 on you have to plug in the w/less controller just to tell the PS3 its there, this is the same for every additional controller you plug in even in the middle of gameplay, wow what innovation.
5:The processor that doesn't work: Yes everybody who buys a PS3 is also buying a processor that doesnt work. Sony admmited to ths bungle a while ago albeit quietly. The "Cell" processor chip consists of 8 processors in tandem, currently the PS3 uses 6 of them, one for "Copyright Protection" aha yeah right and 1that just wont work. This has become somewhat of a huge laugh for the anti PS3 sect. I agree, this thing has been more than six years in the making and they cant get 1of the processors to work! Come on this is Sony known for their innovation, gees someone there needs to be fired for such incompetence.
6:Critical Opinion:Mostly bad and that is not an exaggeration just trawl through blogs, youtube etc and there really isnt anything that positive. Please read the New York Times review of the PS3, it is damning the least and of course developers are not warming to the console as well, exclusive Sony property like the "Devil may Cry" has now been announced for the 360 platform, GTA4 will now be released simultaneously with the 360 and more and more games are now going to be dual released, Sony is losing its hard earned niche in the market. And when you see previously exclusive titles going to a competitor you know that you are in trouble
I could continue guys but these are my top five reasons not buy the dead duck called the PS3. The Nintendo Wii is outselling the PS3 2 to 1 in Japan and in America the 360 is doing the same. Sony has lost this round and the damage could be critical. Sony has been beaten in all aspects; price, game selection and the fun factor, it is only obvious that the PS3 or the George Foremen Grill as it has been labeled should not be on your shopping list.
Ryan
Xbox360 and PS3 are nearly the same except the DVD format which only the consumer will loose out in. Sony survives on marketing and if it is too expensive now wait a year or two for Sony to come out with PS3 slim. The price doesnt help the competition either!
Polo
How can anyone say ps3 is rubbish? It is great use 1080p it is mind blowing.
David
This is actually a great time to buy a PS2 if you have never had one before. National chains are selling traded-in PS2s with guarantees for literally a tenth of the price of the PS3, there is a huge back catalogue of games that are about to get very cheap, and there are still a few premium games released for the PS2, like God Of War II.
Ron
Seems to me the fan boy element is never removed from the ooool 360 vs PS3 debate. Both have cracking visuals and extras. Both great machines. Personally, I wanted the inclusion of the Blu-ray player because I do have the necessary screen, so I got the PS3. At this stage the release title available on PS3 dont seem a lot different to any other console release - they only get better with time. The above comment about the 5th, 6th and 7th installments is fair, though. Hard to find an unbias opinion as you are seemingly a MS or Sony fan...
Brent
Bring back Space Invaders!
Don
This new ps3 is not worth it if they are selling at that price of $1200. All it is just an upgrade to newer graphics, it maybe cool to play it but in the near future maybe Sony will look at newer advention to upgrade more features to the ps3, or another upgrade it to a ps4 who knows it gets expensive everytime.....
Angela
I think it is a lot of money to pay out, it puts so much pressure on parents, not forgetting games and accessories the money factor certainly starts mounting up. My son had PlayStation 1, now has 2, next he will be asking me for PlayStation 3, but for that kind of money I dont think so.

Gabe Newell, founder and creator of one of the worlds biggest gaming franchises- Valve (home of Steam games distribution software, creators of Half Life series and Counter Strike, among others), has said: "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think its really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell. "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a "do over." Just say, "This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it." [Source- http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156403] He also said the Wii is a great invention that is going to revolutionise gaming. This is coming from the man who is already revolutionising gaming with Steam- the world leader in online game content distribution and patch streamlining. Those guys have given something great to the community, and made a fortune doing it. Sony should listen to them.
Jen
I have just got back from Gameplanet in Dominion Road where they have had 100 pre-orders for PS3 - whereas for Xbox 360 they had more than 300, with a store launch party for 150 gamers. EB Botany Downs held a midnight opening for hundreds of Xbox 360 gamers last year - last night they reportedly sold 20 PS3s...

Once again Microsoft has shown it knows how to pick winners. Xbox is far cheaper and it has HDDVD, so it will prove to be even more valuable in the long term. HDDVD is the future for viewing because the disks are far cheaper produce and the infrastructure to make them is already well developed. HDDVD delivers almost the same appreciable quality as the much more expensive Blue-ray. Only a true high-fi fanatic would want Blue-ray, and most people are not fanatics. Microsft is heading for true gaming and media dominance. Ok, I think Mr Gates is a bit of a toss too - but he does know what he is doing.
Chris
Apart from its Blu-ray support, the PS3 has nothing over the Xbox 360. And then you can get an HD-DVD addon for the Xbox, and you are still saving a decent amount of cash. Or you can just get a decent gaming PC, that has had these so called "next gen" graphics for years and years, nor do you need a pricey HDTV either.

Emotions seem to run high about this toy. I can not quite understand the vehement attitude of some of the others who have posted their opinions - its as if they have some personal vendetta against Sony for some reason.
