KFC finger lickin' customers could soon be putting their fingers on keyboards as well as in their mouths as they surf 'n' eat at new style outlets.
The concept - using the internet while having a Colonel Burger Combo - is on trial at KFC's Manners Mall outlet in Wellington.
"We're creating more of an entertainment precinct around our stores" said Noel Dempsey, KFC chief operating officer.
The aim is to grow KFC's burger and snack business - which Mr Dempsey said means catering to young internet savvy customers who want meals on the run.
In addition to two internet kiosks run by local internet provider Zip, the Manners Mall outlet has four TVs with Sky channels, a newspaper reading stand and a sofa and chairs "lounging area."
Mr Dempsey said the Sky TV was particularly popular during last weekend's Super 12 matches. The coin-operated internet kiosks cost $2 for 10 minutes. So far, the new attractions seem to be working. After one week, Mr Dempsey said customer numbers were up 30 per cent. If that continues, internet access and Sky TV will be installed at other outlets - most likely in downtown areas.
