KEY POINTS:
Apple is gleefully telling the world today that more than a million copies of Safari for Windows were downloaded from its servers in 48 hours.
The free public beta was made available on Monday.
Reports across the internet have accused Safari of being slower to load pages than the competition, but it is only a beta.
The first update to Safari 3, fixing some of the beta's bugs, was released last night.
Apple, however, says it's "the world's fastest and easiest-to-use browser" and rates Safari as two times faster than IE 7 and 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2, based on iBench tests.
Safari will be the only browser to behave itself with the much-vaunted Apple iPhone, due for release in America on June 29.
