Pros: Nintendo has upskilled its controllers with the release of Sports Resort - a new add-on called Motion Plus, which plugs straight into the WiiMote base, allows greater control and more precise movement. The game takes players to a Nintendo-cute island resort for a dozen different activities. It starts with a skydive, and includes sword fighting, wakeboarding, cycling, canoeing, archery, and basketball. Archery really shows the new control system's clever tricks: you draw your bow by holding the WiiMote upright in your left hand and drawing back the Nunchuk - and even the slightest wrong movement can destroy your chances of success. Basketball also underlines how deft movements win the game.
Cons: It's hard to say anything bad about Sports Resort except a few of the sports aren't that fun - but each to their own, eh? It's a hugely entertaining title, but still shows up the Wii's lack of high-def video and audio, especially on big HD tellies.
Verdict: Motion Plus has taken the Wii a big step forward - while the WiiMote was ground-breaking in its day, the console needed something like this to keep Nintendo at the top of the heap. Sports Resort is an excellent game to demo the uprated controller - a perfect party game which is incredibly easy to pic up for non-gamers. Big fun, well worth adding to the collection.
