The most widely accepted audio players are all free and do not take long to download. It's simply a matter of going to the appropriate website and following the download instructions. It is a good idea to have both Realplayer and Media Player as some sites favour one or the other.
Choose a folder where you'll save the audio software, then click on the newly downloaded file to install the software Usually an icon for the software will be created automatically on your desktop.
Microsoft RealPlayer 8 - RealNetworks
Windows Media Player 8
Apple's Quicktime 5 - standard for Mac users.
Winamp 2.76 from NullSoft
AudioActive 2.06c
Most stations will search for the appropriate software and internet connection speed when you connect to them. On slower computers connecting can take several minutes. You can also open the software manually by clicking on the desktop icon to play audio files off-line.
As you get familiar with the software you will learn how to pre-set stations and customise the controls to create your very own virtual radio.
But be warned. These software programs can be incredibly invasive and will compete with each other to vie for your attention. Set your favourite audio software as a default so it will always be the first to start up. The likes of Realplayer come laden with associated advertising and if you are a regular internet user you will regularly be asked to connect to the various audio sites to download the newest software versions.
