About 450 low-income Wellington council housing residents are going on-line under a deal between the Wellington City Council and Fujitsu New Zealand.
Residents of the council's Newtown Park flats will be able to learn computer skills and get free access to the internet in a dedicated computer room being set up by Fujitsu.
Wellington Mayor Mark Blumsky hopes the agreement will become a model for similar developments in Wellington and beyond.
Fujitsu will donate and install 10 computers, a server, a printer, software and internet access, as well as providing office furniture and support from Fujitsu's helpdesk.
The council will provide the room and work with residents to set up training programmes.
The computer room is expected to start operating by late next month.
