Online shopping habits improving
Shopping on the internet is taking hold in New Zealand, according to demographic surveys from Nielsen/NetRatings. More than a third of regular internet users - 34 per cent - investigated making a purchase or actually bought something online in the past 12 months, says senior analyst Jennifer Reddington. That number is up 60 per cent in the past two years, and more than two-thirds of people who bought goods or services online made two or more purchases, she says.
Travelling the web
Travel services remain the most popular category, with 45 per cent of survey respondents saying they investigated or bought accommodation, flights or related services online in the past two months. As last week's chart showed, Air New Zealand, Xtra's travel site, Surf.co.nz and Jasons.com were likely to be the main beneficiaries in this category.
Just the ticket
Movie and concert tickets are enjoying healthy interest and sales on the internet, with 31 per cent of respondents saying they looked at or made online purchases on sites such as Village Skycity and Ticketek.
