Operation parody: the web is stacked with all sorts of Osama bin Laden jokes, animations, games, even viruses at present. Most are propaganda or obscene, and often both - but Mad Blast is worth a look. Requires Shockwave.
Stepping back in web time: the Wayback Machine transports you to web pages produced in another age (in internet terms, five years ago is the Dark Ages). Launched in 1996, the Internet Archive has been storing cyber pages for the future.
Type a web address in the search box, select a date, and and begin surfing some of the 10 billion web pages. Explore pioneering websites then and now - like the 1996 version of The Internet Movie Database (still going today) and the 1997 version of The Well (still going strong today as well).
Check out the local web scene of yesteryear: www.herald.co.nz from 1998, www.xtra.co.nz, www.ihug.co.nz and www.nbr.co.nz. How quickly things change.
Fright sight: Looking forward to trick or treat on Hallowe'en, but at a loss for what to wear? Here's a couple of sites - Costume Cow and Costume Idea Zone - that can help with zany costume ideas.
Go for something really scary and dress up as white trash: "white sweatpants/sweatshirt with trash (ie, milk cartons, paper, candy wrappers) stuck to clothes and hair. Or step into a white trash bag overflowing with trash."
Student smarts: Be amazed at what kids created in the inaugural NZ NetGuide Schools Web Challenge. Nearly 2000 website entries. Check their website for the winners.
