Each month I receive URLs (universal resource locators or web addresses) from jubilant readers who have successfully created their first websites. To give you an idea of what you could achieve yourself without too much difficulty, here's a couple that arrived this week: from David Morris comes a New Zealand Travel Guide - "New Zealand! The way the whole world would have been if the human race hadn't lost the plot" - to add a bit of substance to his car-hire business.
And Margaret McHugh writes: "I am a far better caterer than computer-buff and don't wish to be pushy, but I have a new site up and running some 8 days..." And there she is, slightly shy but proud as punch, behind the counter of her very own Gourmet Food Store website looking as delicious as one of her own Danishes...
SafeWeb: foil the nosy parkers who infest cyber-space - browse anonymously with SafeWeb. This recently launched free service encrypts and protects content, neutralises dangerous scripts, blocks profiling cookies and disables pop-ups. Type the web-address you want and SafeWeb launches a secure browser which can't be traced. See also Anonymizer.
Allyson Gofton's eCook: in the wake of an orchestrated media blitz, you probably don't need me to tell you about this one, but just for the record you will find Allyson Gofton and a large plate of something or other online.
Maya Paint Effects Screen Saver: from the Star Wars special effects team, about the most stunning collection of screensaver presets ever - when you watch Maya in action, you actually see the strokes drawn into a 3D box, snaking in front of and behind existing strokes, fading into the foggy background as they get further from the screen. Sensational.
