Stop the torture: Amnesty International is using the power of the internet in its campaign against torture. Whenever a person known to Amnesty is at risk, this site will alert you by email or by SMS text message to your mobile phone with details of where to send your protest e-mail.
Apparently the offending authorities don't like to receive e-mails any more than the campaign letters on which Amnesty was founded but you have to be quick.
In the five months since the site's launch eight alerts have been issued, which resulted in an average of 2500 e-mails being sent within 12 hours. In three out of the eight cases the detainees have been released.
Laterooms: Laterooms is a British-based site that helps last-minute travellers find vacant accommodation at a discount. The service was recently expanded to include a sprinkling of New Zealand hotels and motels, but for now this site is most useful for finding cheap places to stay in Britain. For example, we found one hotel in inner London that was offering rooms for the ludicrously low rate of £25 ($89) per night, but at that price don't expect any frills.
Fashionz: Now in its fourth year, Fashionz still cuts it as a lively and informative special interest website. Whether you are a dedicated follower of fashion or you want to minimise the time you spend in clothes shops, this is the place for you.
