Bangalore World University: This mysterious website popped up on the New Zealand register last month as part of a global network of sites promoting Stephen Spielberg's forthcoming film A.I. (Artificial Intelligence). The film's publicity department has set up dozens of fictitious sites all over the web all set around the year 2142 containing clues regarding the murder of Evan Chan. You can join this internet treasure hunt at Mr Chan's memorial homepage or alternatively type in the name of the prime suspect Dr Jeanine Salla into a search engine such as www.google.com, and you'll get an idea of the scale of the marketing operation. By the way the film itself, which was taken over as an unfinished project by the late Stanley Kubrick, looks quite interesting too. See the trailer at the Counting Down film site.
Computer-NZ: Computer-NZ has been launched by the same team behind the successful FashioNZ and Garden-NZ sites. While the A to Z directory of New Zealand computer companies will no doubt be handy for tracking down locally-produced software, we have to question the relevance of Dark Data, "a serialised story about a suburban family who encounter an alien data form."
