Mir Re-entry: Russia's 140-tonne Mir space station ends its 15-year mission in about a week by splashing down somewhere in the South Pacific. This site covers everything from Mir's history to the latest developments, including details of an expedition to view the re-entry from a chartered plane.
Or you can download the re-entry simulation movie in Windows Media format.
If you want find where Mir - or any other spacecraft or satellite - is, check the brilliant "JTrack" provided by Nasa.

Recipe ideas include alligator etouffee, roast bear and elk medallions, but you'll find plenty of vegetarian dishes here as well.
Auckland City Libraries Kids' Pages: An excellent online resource for parents and kids, put together by local librarians. Homework Machine includes links to informative sites across a range of subjects together with the catalogue numbers of relevant books available in community branches.
Book Dog is a catalogue of children's books by subject, including short reviews of popular titles.
Sydney University, department of medical entomology: Last week we mentioned that the southern saltmarsh mosquito (Aedes vigilax) was a carrier of the fatal disease Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE). While this association has been established in the laboratory, it is considered unlikely that this species would carry the disease in the wild.
Thanks to the Ministry of Health for pointing out that MVE is more closely associated with a different species not seen in New Zealand, Aedes camptorhynchus.
