Intellectual property law firm A.J. Park is warning businesses to move quickly to secure their trademarks as .biz or .info domain names before potential cybersquatters get there first.
Registration of the names is about to be launched because most meaningful dotcom names have been used.
Trademark lawyer Andrew Collins says a process has been agreed to allow trademark owners to claim a prior right for .biz and .info before registration is opened up. The owners must have submitted an intellectual property claim between May 21 and July 9. From October 1, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. From mid August, .info domain names will be allocated to the general public on application.
