Vodafone says that some customers in and around the Auckland CBD can expect super-quick 3G broadband speeds from today.
Its HSPA+ network will give real-world speeds of up to 16Mbps - but only for around 100 customers.
HSPA+ can offer a theoretical maximum data velocity of 21Mbps to those with capable devices.
"The company is excited to be introducing the service to this first group of customers and is also excited about being the first Vodafone operating company globally to introduce an HSPA+ network," GM of products, pricing and internet services Kursten Shalfoon said in a statement.
"For those using HSPA+, surfing the internet through mobile broadband will have never been quicker," he said. "At up to 16Mbps, the speed at which customers can access information will significantly improve the way they work."
Vodafone will progressively extend the network to other urban areas after "selected customer seeding."
