The highly anticipated Nintendo Wii title Super Smash Bros. Brawl has hit game store shelves in the United States.
In four cities across the country Wii players lined up to take part in a one-on-one elimination tournament to decide an overall champion - with the winner taking away a limited-edition, crystal-coated Wii console and a home theatre system.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features dozens of characters from Nintendo's lengthy back-catalogue and other icons from the video game universe.
Legendary Nintendo stalwarts like the Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Link and Bowser are playable across familiar locations like Yoshi's Island, Smashville and Delfino Plaza.
Players can use four types of controllers - the Wii remote, Nunchuk, classic or GameCube.
It isn't due to be released in New Zealand until June, and will cost $109.99.
