Upgraded VHF radios designed for Kiwi conditions

Uniden has added four new models to its range of VHF marine radios in New Zealand.

According to Calvin Clements, marketing manager for local distributor Electronic Navigation Ltd, there are two new fixed-mount products and two new hand-held devices.

"The new MHS050 is a floating waterproofed hand-held VHF radio that features 16/9 & Triple Watch, Priority Scan, 1/2.5 Watt Tx Power, a large easy-to-read LCD screen with backlight and a flexible rubber antenna," he says. It is priced at $149.95."

Clements describes the UM380 as a splash-proof 25-watt fixed mount Class D VHF radio with DSC (Digital Selective Calling).

"The UM380 gives users the ability to press one button to call for help during an emergency," he says. "Its high performance transceiver ensures clear communication and helps prevent and reject interference". The UM380 retails for $259.99.

The UM415 is a fixed-mount submersible VHF that also features DSC, including Distress Button and Position Send and Request. "This is another high performance transceiver," says Clements. "It has a recommended retail of $379.99."

The top of the range MHS125 submersible is a hand-held two-way VHF that Clement says is packed with outstanding features.

"As well as being able to float, it includes an emergency strobe, all marine channels, weather channels, dual and triple watch, memory channel scan, instant access to channel 16 or channel 9 and adjustable transmit output power to maximise the battery life."

The MHS125 also comes with a Li-ION battery, drop-in charging cradle, AC and DC adapters and an alkaline battery tray. It has a recommended retail of $399.95.
