Tourism site lets address go

The operator of a tourism information site has abandoned his web address rather than get into conflict with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

Greg Scowen, who says that over seven months he built his New Zealand Focus site (www.newzealand-focus.com) into one of the best-known NZ tourism portals, has migrated it to a new URL, www.pleppin.co.nz.

That followed Trade and Enterprise registering the site www.newzealandfocus.com last month as part of plans to develop a Concept Centre in Hong Kong to promote exports.

Scowen says he contacted Trade and Enterprise asking it to reconsider use of the URL, but it felt that name confusion would not be an issue.
