Toshiba to launch Blu-ray player

After the unceremonious demise of its own HD-DVD format, Toshiba plans to release a Blu-ray player, according to Japanese newspaper Yomiuri .

It is expected that Toshiba's DVD/Blu-ray player in the rival format will be for sale by the end of the year.

The article also says that Toshiba is looking at releasing a Blu-ray recorder on the Japanese market.

Recent data from the Digital Entertainment Group put Blu-ray disc sales a massive 91 percent higher for the first half of the year, compared to 2008.
