KEY POINTS:
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune(Sony: R16) is just in time for those getting a PS3 this Christmas. The exclusive action adventure title comes from the famous Naughty Dog developers but instead of the usual cartoonish platform Crash bandicoot action comes a mix of Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones.
The tale involves roguish treasure hunter Nathan Drake ("related" to Sir Francis Drake) accompanied by a female journalist avoiding pirates while chasing plunder from El Dorado, an ancient lost city. And there are a lot of pirates.
By far this game has the most georgous graphics seen on the PS3, with plants and water looking like you're out on a real bush-trek and the scenery is highly detailed in 720p visual splendour. A bit of a moniker for the console, the game combines action, combat, Lara Croft-type jumping and swinging from vines with interesting puzzle-solving and creates a game that will surely win over people to the console.
Also new for Christmas on PS3:
Folklore (Sony: rated PG), a dark and intriguing fantasy tale in which two strangers join together to solve a mysterious legend in a remote village called Doolin that exists on the border between dreams and reality and is a gateway to fantastic realms, full of magical creatures, spirits and monsters. Colourful graphics, accented vocabulary and magic abounds.
Need for Speed: Pro Street (EA: rated G; also on other consoles) is, as you'd expect from the franchise, a solid racing game, this time about legal racing, following the street racing career of Ryan Cooper. No more underground street racing in this one, make a name for yourself and win big out-gassing your rivals and impressing the chicks with your hot ride and racing finesse.
