Texting showed its appeal as a means of giving to charity in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami.
Donors gave more than $60,000 to World Vision by text message using a system set up in 24 hours by Auckland's The Hyperfactory.
Telecom and Vodafone subscribers were able to give $3 to the tsunami relief effort by texting "donate" to a three-digit code number.
World Vision New Zealand head Helen Green said the amount of money that flowed in showed the power of texting as a medium.
