Telecom says some cellphones may not be working until tonight

All Telecom prepaid cellphone users and 60 per cent of postpaid cellphone users were this morning affected by a network softwear fault.

Telecom spokeswoman Gerry Eller said problems were experienced throughout the country intermittently overnight and from 7 o'clock this morning.

She said Telecom hoped to progressively restore coverage to postpaid customers this morning but some customers might not have service restored until the evening.

Customers may not receive calls and may have problems making calls, except for 111 emergency calls, which were not affected.

New connections in the last fortnight may not be restored until later tonight.
