KEY POINTS:
Telecom has apologised to customers affected by Friday's outage of its broadband network.
The outage occurred between 9 and 10pm and the service was largely restored between 4 and 5am yesterday, Telecom spokesman Mark Watts said.
The problem emanated from a central Auckland exchange, with the exact cause still being examined, he said.
"But the focus has been very much on giving people their broadband again," he said.
The telephone system - fixed line, mobile and the 111 service - was unaffected, he said.
"We are certainly apologetic to any customers who might have been affected," he said.
There might be some residual issues disrupting email services and the company asked for patience while trying to resolve them.
"Our call centres have had extremely heavy demand as people became aware of the issues."
