KEY POINTS:
Tech industry lay-offs have passed the 100,000 mark, according to a count-up done by Channel Insider.
The website reports that since October, 100,119 people have lost their jobs as companies restructure and brace for recession.
While many of the roles have been sales and marketing related, thousands have been IT or research and development jobs.
In January there have already been 19,000 jobs have been chopped.
Even industry giants have been hit by the global credit crisis, with Google recently laying off 5,000 temporary and contract workers and Microsoft, according to the Wall Street Journal, mulling redundancies.
