KEY POINTS:
PS3 (18+)
Pros: The sequel to the well-received PS3 launch title leaves the original for dead. A first person shooter sees small numbers of humans battling to save the planet from all manner of alien monsters - the Chimera. The action is relentless from the first scene, and the battles are spectacular. Between Blu-ray quality graphics and high-intensity digital surround sound, you'd be forgiven for thinking the two-metre tall beast shooting fireballs at you is in the same room. The story progresses nicely, with a good 12 hours of immersive gameplay. An eight-player co-op mode has been added for multiplayer fans, and 60-person campaign mode is available online.
Cons: The bosses are massive (one's about 300-feet tall) and can be quite hard to kill. Some scenes are so dark it's necessary to crank up the on-screen brightness to try and avoid violent death at the hands of the Chimera.
Verdict: Great weapons, extremely entertaining alien-fragging levels and massively challenging creatures will keep you pinned to the PS3 until the last boss is a pile of extraterrestrial body parts.
