Psychologist Ross Gilmour is seeking 2000 problem sleepers to test a web-based sleep programme.
"While there are excellent facilities for people with specialised sleep problems, such as sleep apnoea, there is very little for people who are otherwise healthy but have problems getting off to sleep or staying asleep," he said.
The programme had been successfully used in face-to-face consultations with individuals and groups and Mr Gilmour wanted to see if it would work as well through the internet.
New Zealand research indicated about 25 per cent of adults had sleep problems, many of them shift workers.
Participants for the trial must be over 16 years old and able to pay $48.
