KEY POINTS:
On June 22, Sony is releasing Go!Cam, a camera that plugs directly in to the USB port on the PSP.
The specs say it has two and a half hours video recording time and should capture and store over 40,000 photos.
There is a built in microphone, you can change the direction of the camera lens vertically by 180 degrees and there is Go!Edit, an editing software package which lets you save and edit photos, video and audio clips.
The 1.3 megapixel camera will retail for $94.95.
On the gaming front, there are some excellent releases to keep us glued to our couches all winter.
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (EA: PC, Xbox 360)
The formula stayed the same in this latest episode in the popular franchise but who cares. It's as brilliant as ever. This time the game is set in 2047. Tiberium, the self-replicating alien substance that has infected the Earth, is spreading. A hi-tech alliance of the world's most advanced nations is fighting to contain it and war breaks out as they grapple for the remaining land.
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII (Ubisoft: PS3)
You've got to love flying around in historic old planes, and when Blazing Angels came out on Xbox 360 I flew it to death. Well, now it's been ported to the new Sony PS3. It's pretty much the same in looks, but there are extra missions, more planes and you can play online with up to 16 players. This online stuff is critical if Sony is to compete with Xbox 360. This is WWII stuff, so the planes are old - technically, of course, as well as in looks, so don't expect to crack the sound barrier.
Socom: US navy seals combined assault (Sony: PS2)
This was a milestone for Sony when it was first released. It was a decent first-person shooter - there was something missing until then. And it could be played online, which, unlike Xbox, was a rare treat in Sony's PS2 online world. USNSCA works online as well, but is pretty much more of the same with enhanced squad ordering and graphics. Let's hope the PS3 version breaks new ground. It's hard to believe Bush would ever play a console game but if he did, he'd like this one as it's about the Seals cracking down on those tyrannical and evil groups that don't like the US.
Medal of Honor: Vanguard (EA: Wii, PS2)
I was curious to see how a Medal of Honor title worked on Wii. Obviously it's not groundbreaking when it comes to the graphics but the controls are more than just a novelty, they lend some reality to the virtual reality. You control the main character with the Nun-chuk's analogue stick and aim your weapons using the Wii remote. Responsiveness is not always as sharp as you would like, but the first-person shooter is your typical good-old MOH and the Wii is a fresh way to play it.
Burnout Dominator (EA: PSP, PS2)
This time, it's more crazy driving than combat. And the driving sure is crazy. You can drive on the wrong side of the road right into oncoming traffic if you want a thrill. As always, you have to work through missions to unlock more cars. Burnout is always fun but for something really fresh, I'm hanging out for the one being developed for the PS3.
So what have you been playing? Any recommendations?
