While killer titles are few and far between as the action shifts to the next-gen PS3, there's still enough coming out to keep the die-hard PS2 gamer going until they join the next-gen revolution.
Here are some of the latest offerings:
If bikes and buggies are your thing,
ATV Offroad Fury 4
(Sony. PS2, PG) is the best in the series so far, with lots of dirt racing challenges like supercross, rallycross, circuit and freestyle events around the world. Fans will be in heaven with the variety of vehicles including dune buggies, and a variety of tracks. AI and graphics are definitely PS2 but no doubt the next one will be on PS3.
Buzz and Singstar are helping in keeping the PS2 alive but are starting to need some form of refresh.
Buzz the Pop Quiz
(Sony, PS2, G) has 5000 pop music questions on the last decade or so whilst
Singstar Party Hits
(Sony, PS2, G) includes tracks we may have pretended to have forgotten but know the words to: like Wham's
Club Tropicana
, Peter Andre's
Mysterious Girl
and Mel & Kim's
Respectable
.
Evermore's
Light Surrounding
You is the nearest thing to celebrating the just-ended Kiwi Music Month.
Younger kids get a new Buzz Junior called
Dino Den
(Sony, PS2, G) which has some great mini-games for the younger ones with a cute and colourful dinosaur theme including the chance to ride a T-Rex. Once again the Buzz controller is used to control the game, and up to four kids can play.
Speaking of well-known warhorses, the Sims, turns up on the PC with
Sims 2: Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
(EA. PC, M), which sounds innocuous enough, but is rated M for sexual references!) In this you redesign kitchens and bathrooms then outfit your Sims in new clothes to celebrate.
Many of the big PS2 hits are now moving completely on to the PS3. One of the most awaited will be
Killzone 2
but it will be months away. This is the latest Sony has let anyone see of the gameplay action.
