KEY POINTS:
TOKYO - Japan's Pioneer is finalising plans to stop all production of plasma display panels, an industry source said today, confirming an earlier report in the Nikkei business daily.
Pioneer is likely to buy panels from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co, the source said.
An earlier report in the Asahi newspaper said that the company would concentrate on making plasma screens larger than 50 inches.
Pioneer had a target to sell 480,000 plasma televisions this business year, which ends on March 31.
Matsushita's target of five million units was more than ten times that figure.
Pioneer's plasma business had been struggling in the wake of larger competitors like Matsushita and LG Electronics.
