Hundreds of households in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill are still without phone and internet services after a telecommunications cable supporting the area was damaged yesterday.
Chorus, an arm of Telecom charged with maintaining its copper and fibre optic networks, said around 1000 customers in the Stoddard Road and Roma Road area of Mt Roskill were affected by the problem yesterday.
A third party damaged the cable, meaning residents were unable to use their internet or fixed line phone from yesterday morning.
They were advised to use a mobile phone in an emergency, and contact their service provider about alternative phone and internet services until repairs were completed.
The first customers were back online last night, but by midday today service had only been restored to around 150 customers.
A Chorus spokesman could not be reached for comment early this afternoon.
