Lotus specialist Nota Bene is launching a system management software package developed from the work it has done for the police.
Director Steve Lamb said the Universal Configuration Tool allowed Nota Bene to quickly roll out a large number of Lotus users and simplified later changes.
The police have almost 10,000 users on their system and use Lotus Notes for email and other applications, including an electronic bulletin board, which run on the Lotus Domino application server.
Wellington-based Nota Bene has a contract to oversee the system's administration and with the software does this with only four staff.
The police national manager for applications, Murray Mitchell, said the software let staff who moved around the country walk into any police station and work on the system.
Lamb said Nota Bene worked through a separate database that acted as a directory of users, which could be configured to specify the applications and databases the user could access.
