IT services company Simpl Group has merged with Oracle specialist Software Consultants (SCL) in what Simpl owner Bennett Medary says will be the first of several mergers or acquisitions.
"We are actively looking for a partner in Wellington."
He said the deal was worth about $5 million and the combined company had 130 staff and revenue of about $20 million. It would trade under the Simpl brand and work out of Simpl's Auckland offices.
SCL chief executive Mike Ogle said his company realised it needed a wider range of skills to handle the sort of business it was seeing in the marketplace. "With our skills around verticals like health and the Oracle database and tools, it seemed a natural fit."
SCL has developed its own Oracle tool set, Foundation Stone, which it hopes to license to other companies. It is also working on image processing technologies based on new-generation silicon chips.
Ogle hoped to have a prototype for a system that counted kiwifruit on the vine by summer.
