KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - Optus has launched an aggressive new campaign to win a greater chunk of the broadband internet and home phone market, with a capped home and broadband plan.
The offer, which will be accompanied by an aggressive marketing campaign, allows customers unlimited home calls to local, national and Optus mobile numbers as well as broadband free of excess download charges.
"Optus is committed to offering new and existing customers sensational value, while we continue to grow our subscriber base," said consumer managing director, Warren Hardy.
The introductory package starts at $A69 ($NZ76.94) per month and includes a two gigabyte data allowance.
The company said the offer was part of a broader strategy to leverage its existing network infrastructure.
In a briefing with journalists, Mr Hardy also hinted a combined package including mobile phone services could be offered in the future.
"(But) I wouldn't like to telegraph our punches in the future," he said.
The telco also announced a new deal with popular social networking website, MySpace, to offer a mobile version on Optus mobiles.
