From one end of the earth to the other. Local start-up Maximum Availability has landed its first overseas customer.
It has sold its NoMax AS/400 data replication tool to Iceland Telecom.
Sales director Simon O'Sullivan said the "mid six-figure" sale could be the first of many, as iSeries AS/400 sites around the world take advantage of NoMax's free one-month trial.
"We also have possible big sales pending in Spain, Britain and the United States," Mr O'Sullivan said.
Maximum Availability was formed by former IBM New Zealand staff who had worked on the ICMS billing software developed for Telecom New Zealand.
Mr O'Sullivan said Iceland Telecom was one of the five largest ICMS users, with a customer base of 300,000 subscribers.
It will use NoMax to replicate data between two iSeries AS/400 servers to provide high availability and disaster recovery.
Maximum Availability beat out the incumbent, one of the two major providers of AS/400 replication software, whose product was unable to meet Iceland Telecom's daily processing volumes.
Because NoMax works with OS/400 Remote Journaling to apply database changes to one or more backup databases, it has a virtually unlimited apply process that allows the software to process huge volumes without a backlog.
"We believe NoMax is now the fastest data replication product for the AS/400 on the world market," he said.
It was installed in two days, compared with the weeks and months required for competing products.
