The New Zealand creator of a popular online word game that has been removed from Facebook says he will have a similar game launched within days.
Bogglific, a Facebook version of the word game Boggle, was removed after Kiwi creator Roger Nesbitt was forwarded a cease and desist letter from games manufacture Hasbro.
"They claimed that I breached their copyright," Mr Nesbitt said.
Despite removing Bogglific from Facebook, Mr Nesbitt is currently developing a similar game, which he plans to launch within a few days.
"I've taken the opportunity to make a few changes to the game," Mr Nesbitt said. "It should definitely be compliant with the law."
Mr Nesbitt believes Hasbro's claims were unfounded.
"US copyright quite clearly claims that you cannot copyright the logistics of the game," he said.
A letter posted on Facebook, allegedly from Hasbro, said the company was protecting its brand.
"Simply put, it is illegal and Hasbro has an obligation to protect its Boggle brand," the letter said.
Bogglific is the second Facebook game this month to have been targeted by Hasbro for breach of copyright. Facebook has also been asked to remove Scrabulous.
