KEY POINTS:
Microsoft's Seadragon application for the iPhone is copping heat for distributing porn to unsuspecting users of Apple's device.
Users of MacRumors forums were horrified to discover that the graphics viewer - which includes an impressive collection of images from the Library of Congress and NASA - was packed with adult content. It was being stored in folders relating to Microsoft's Photosynth.
"Porn in Microsoft's Seadragon! Yes I know, hard to believe but its true!" wrote SFVCylcone on the popular forums.
"Download Seadragon by Microsoft then go to Browse Photosynth. Then the libraries named "home_two" and "home_s12" are full of it. This is ridiculous! Someone is getting fired for this one!"
Seadragon is Microsoft's first application for Apple's iPhone, one of the main competitors to its own Windows Mobile operating system.
It's a free distribution from Microsoft Live Labs, stemming from the software leviathan's purchase of a start-up over a decade ago.
Microsoft has since removed the content from Seadragon, although several users of the MacRumors forums were enthusiastic about the dirty pictures.
"I was on the fence about bothering with this but I've downloaded it now," wrote Andy on the thread.
"Well I guess if there needs to be a reason to download an MS app to your iPhone, this will be it," agreed Jessica.
A user posting as The General praised the software: "Yeah, it's actually a really cool app. The nekked chicks are just the icing on the cake. Some of the set is actually quite interesting. Clothes on, clothes off."
Seadragon is intended as a free demo to test the viability of the display technology, which allows you to zoom smoothly into high-res images online, regardless of bandwidth.
