MP David Cunliffe today welcomed a Microsoft community programme which will provide non-profit organisations help to become computer literate.
Associate Information Technology Minister Mr Cunliffe said Microsoft's Unlimited Potential Initiative provided financial grants, software, and training material to non-profit organisations.
South Dunedin's Approach Adult Learning Centre and Helensville's Te Awaroa Youth Club were the first New Zealand organisations to be involved in the initiative.
"The Government believes there is a real win-win for industry in helping get all New Zealanders on-line and confident in the use of computers." Mr Cunliffe said in a statement.
"It means good jobs and access to services in remote areas."
Meanwhile the closing date for submissions on the Government's draft Digital Strategy close on August 16.
