KEY POINTS:
Two New Zealand based companies, 1000Minds and Unlimited Realities, have won a prestigious Consensus Software Award in Sydney last night.
The two companies were among thirteen winners from across Australia and New Zealand in a field of 24 finalists.
1000Minds, a University of Otago-based company, is advanced decision-support software to help users - businesses, government organisations and individuals - to make decisions involving prioritising, ranking or choosing from amongst competing individuals or alternatives.
"1000Minds has been acknowledged in several national and international innovation awards. Such industry recognition, in addition to academic peer review, has reinforced 1000Minds' scientific validity and overall credibility," Associate Professor in the Department of Economics Dr Hansen said.
The company is currently working with development partners The Street and University of Otago, creating a 3-D, interactive gaming-based product to help students choose their courses, which will be released soon.
Unlimited Realities, based in Palmerston North, was formed in 1996 by David Brebner and focuses on creating business solutions for local companies, local government and Corporates, both here in New Zealand and overseas.
Unlimited Realities have developed a unique platform for creating rich internet content such as E-books, video, animation, simulation, e-learning and interactives.
Consensus Software Awards, sponsored by Microsoft and IBM, are the only independently judged awards for Australian and New Zealand software.
