KEY POINTS:
An investigation has been launched into how an Australian employment website allowed confidential client information onto the internet.
According to smh.com.au, New Digital Media's CareerOne website allowed details from the company's customer relationship database to be accessed by anyone for up to a month.
One client is described online as a "retard" and another referred to as a "lazy good for nothing".
One file contained lists of nearly 500 client names, email addresses and login information, while another listed over 5000 clients with their addresses and phone numbers.
The pages have since been removed, and CareerOne has launched an internal investigation into how such private information was made freely available online.
It is understood that the blunder breaches Australia's Privacy Act.
