Islamic cleric causes Boobquake

An Iranian cleric attributing recent natural disasters in Haiti, Chile and the USA to scantily dressed women has attracted the ire of females globally, causing social networking sites to go into overdrive, spurring women to declare the 26th of April "Boobquake" day.

Stating that "many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,", cleric Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi angered many women, including Jennifer McCreight of Purdue University who kicked off "Boobquake day" on her Facebook page for April 26th.

Encouraging women to wear low-cut tops and push-up bras, or tight clothing, Hundreds of thousands of female Facebook and Twitter users globally have registered to participate. McCreight has indicated that she plans to perform regular seismograph checks on Boobquake day to prove that an increase in immodestly dressed women causes no significant increase in earthquake activity.

Comedic value aside, the Boobquake event illustrates the sheer power of social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook. Should no mention worthy increase in seismic events occur during the 26th, Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi faces the embarrassing prospect of explaining why he was wrong.

Meantime, male social networking users globally are calling for Boobquake day to become a recurring annual fixture.
