Hollywood studio and staunch anti-piracy advocate, Warner Bros. is being sued by a German company which alleges the studio has pirated its anti-piracy technology.
According to Medien Patent Verwaltung, they showcased an anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. back in 2003.
The technology 'watermarks' films with hidden codes that allows pirated copies to be traced back to the cinemas the screened in.
Medien Patent Verwaltung claims that Warner Bros. started to use the technology in Europe from 2004 but hasn't paid it a cent since.
Ironic litigation aside, this case could potentially tarnish any credibility Hollywood is hoping to build as it fights a pitched battle for hearts, minds and wallets in a bid to curb growing levels of piracy.
