Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
Q. My mailbox was just flooded with Xtra "Mail System Error" messages. I didn't send any of these messages yet a huge volume has been returned to me. What can I do to stop this? asks Karen.
A. Forward them to: abuse@xtra.co.nz complaining that they are unsolicited email, Karen. This common trick of viruses only sucks more internet resources when Xtra and most other provider mail servers are aware yet continue to add these unverified responses to the equation. By sending them back to their administration, they may be motivated to find a solution! Xtra won't be happy with emails flooding their abuse mail box because it ties up their abuse team for hours. What better way is there to get them to act!
We'd be interested in other readers' thoughts as to how providers such as Xtra can eliminate this drain of resources in a positive way. Email us with your suggestions and help us all to reduce this irritation.

Q. "###### This is not commercial email.###### A user is attempting to share experiences and opinions about you via our website." That was the title of an email I received last week writes Ray. I went to the site that was suggested (Shareyourexperiences.com) and the only way I can find out what has been said about me is to pay and join. Is this site legitimate? he asks.
A. It is not what it seems Ray. Even if you pay, it turns out that you can't identify the source and your curiosity will not be satisfied. Trash that email and ignore that site, it's just another clever web-scam after your money!

Q. Your email password fails yet it's correct! I've checked with Ihug's help staff, who double-checked and it works, but when I try it fails, complains Gerry.
A. Enter the password in lower case, Gerry. The machines are case sensitive so most internet providers use lower case for all passwords. It's common for someone to have the case lock set to capitals and find the password fails every time. The password shows as dots or stars when you type; so you are totally unaware!
