Q. Errol gets an irritating dot between each word when typing a document. Also the paragraph symbol precedes each line. "Tell me how to get rid of these - it makes it hard to read what I've typed. Funny thing is, the faults don't print out, nor do they appear on emails I write in Microsoft Outlook," he writes.
A. You've inadvertently clicked the "Show/Hide Paragraph" line button in your Microsoft Word toolbar Errol. It is left of the zoom size dropdown menu, and has the paragraph symbol on it. Click this button and the symbols will disappear.
Because they are a formatting guide, they won't print out and they don't show in e-mail messages because you are sending in "plain text".

Q. "AVG Antivirus tells me I have a Trojan virus in the XP restore file system. How do I get rid of the thing?" asks Sydney.
A. You have to turn off system restore, then turn it back on, Sydney. Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Modern viruses know that System Restore records changes and therefore have figured out how to enter. By turning off this Windows XP feature, you clear all restore history. Turning it on again it restarts the restore recording process.

Q. "I've heard that service pack 2 for Windows XP is available. Windows Update isn't finding it yet. I've enabled auto update as the site suggests, what am I doing wrong?" asks Shaun.
A. SP2 is not available for public download yet Shaun. What has been released is the version for IT professionals and developers. The public version will be available soon.
