Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
* The www.nzherald.co.nz web pages have the text size set too small for Doug's elderly eyes. Selecting Internet Explorer's View/Text Size/Largest doesn't help.
Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools/Internet Options/General/Accessibility/Formatting. Place a tick beside "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages" and click OK, OK. Now you'll need a bigger screen to fit it all, Doug.
* An archived Herald article may help Daire to detect where her darling children have been surfing unsupervised. There are signs that certain items have been deleted and suspicions are growing.
Michael Foreman's article on the Hidden Files in Windows may help. A hidden file called index.dat lists all history where the browser has been and it's unlikely the kids know how to edit it.
Open the www.nzherald.co.nz page and select the "search" link. Enter Hidden Files and search Technology in the last "6 months". You want the article entitled "Secret lives of our PCs".
* Eric's Mac problem from last week has been answered. Thanks for all the replies (though many were for Windows PCs).
Klaus was first to send in this Mac solution. In Outlook Express, go to Preferences and uncheck "show attached images". He suspects that it is the junk mail images that are requesting connections to the net that so annoyed Eric.
* "I downloaded the PowerPoint Viewer (www.umist.ac.uk/apt/resource/viewers/ppview97.exe) onto my desktop but the PPS files still won't work," writes Elizabeth.
This is a common problem, Elizabeth. After a download like this you have to double click on the downloaded file to start the viewer installation. Follow the instructions and you'll soon be able to see PowerPoint files.
