Q. Mike writes: "I have folders on the computer which revert to the View form. I wish to display the files in them as List or Details, but when I go out from the folder and back in later the View has reverted to the Large Icon form. How can I ensure they stay in List or Details form?
A. In most versions of Windows, open My Computer. Set all the settings you'd like to have your folders show as, then select Tools/Folder Options/View. Press "Like Current Folder". In Windows XP use the "Apply to All Folders" button.
Now look down the menu and place a tick beside "Remember Each Folder's View" settings. Click Apply/OK.
Q. Jenny and Tony received a new variation of a lottery scam offering a huge win in the Netherlands "Omega" lottery. Wisely, they saw it for what it was - a scam. But some still get caught by the seemingly innocent "no money needed to claim" statement.
A. Never supply bank details. If such an offer was legitimate, they would be happy to post a cheque, which is much nicer than finding your benefactor has done laundry in your account.
Q. Bruce reminds us that the latest "Trojans" are being improved to contain key loggers and password catchers to grab home PC bank account details.
A. If you receive email or even share your computer with others, running reputable antivirus and firewall software reduces this risk. Two of the most frequently used are McAfee and Norton. Antivirus software aims to stop the Trojans before they get in and a firewall stops any that get through from calling home.
Q. "The spell check on this document was halted." Alison gets this message when she writes an email in Outlook Express.
A. Microsoft has your solution, Alison, at Microsoft Support.
