Q. "MSVBVM60. DLL not found" pops up when running CWShredder. Hit by the Cool Web Search hijacking, Doug followed our suggestion to download CWShredder. Unfortunately, the missing DLL message pops up and CWShredder refuses to run.

A. It's a known CWShredder issue in some earlier versions of Windows, Doug. Download and install the "Microsoft Visual Basic 6 runtime libraries". The CWShredder download address won't work.

Q. Readers say the suggested CWShredder address is failing, especially when they have the hijack version that changes the default Internet Explorer start page to "About:Blank".

A. The shredder address changes often when versions of "Cool Web Search" hijacking purposely block access to the file. Try this page if the address doesn't work. The link is halfway down and takes you to the current location of the file: www.spywareinfo.com/articles/cws/

Q. Karen's Norton Internet Security deletes email without notice! She had this problem a while ago and a patch fixed it. She asks: "What can I do to stop NIS getting carried away like this?"

A. I too had this problem recently. I had the patch, yet a Norton update overwrote it! Replacing the patch fixed it. Several emails to Norton produced NO response so I removed NIS until a satisfactory permanent solution is produced. I suggest you do the same! Meanwhile, you can replace the Norton firewall with the free version of Zonealarm, or another popular FREE Firewall is Sygate

Q. Antivirus cannot delete an infected file. Adrian, Ian and other readers have infections and other unwanted guests that refuse to be deleted.

A. Reboot into the safe mode of Windows, which turns off everything except the basic components Windows requires to run so files that are normally protected or active can be dealt with. For most versions you enter safe mode by Restarting and pressing F8 when Windows starts to load.
