Ken's spell checker plants its window in front of the document and he can't tell if the changes should be made or not until after it's finished. He asks: "Have you ever tried to spell-check a sentence you can't see?"
You can move the window, Ken. Just click and hold the mouse button on the spell-check title bar and drag it to a less obscuring screen position.
Graeme reckons he has a curly one. He can't make his "prn" file print.
Prn files are a bit confusing, Graeme, but there is a way via Dos: save the file on a floppy and then place that floppy in the machine that has the printer. To send a Prn file to the printer, first make sure there's a printer connected to the LPT1 port of your destination computer. Then click Start/Programs/Ms-Dos Prompt. In the Dos Prompt window, type: copy a:\FILENAME.prn lpt1 and press the Enter key. Make sure you include the full path to the document. Dos should return the message "1 file(s) copied" and the printer should burst to life.
John wants the easiest way to save e-mails on floppy for later referral on his laptop.
Well John, you don't get simpler than by highlighting the required e-mails and dragging them into an open floppy folder. You can then view each of them as separate files.
A clarification on the "!000" idea from Scotty last week: The suggestion is not a fix. It's just another free idea you can do. It's not very effective against current viruses, but it's better than nothing at all.
Something else you can do to limit the spread of e-mail viruses which automatically send themselves to everyone in your address book is to move the location of the contacts list. The best way to do this is by using one of several new programs that have recently been designed for this. One suggested by Dave is Private Base (a free 3.5Mb download), which moves and encrypts the list.
